It wasn't easy. The Filipinos did not receive justice from the power of the Rescission Act (1946). Filipino veterans were waiting for the benefits promised by President Roosevelt for a long time, but death got to some of the soldiers first. Some Filipino veterans are still alive today and they finally received their recognition along with some benefits. In 2009, President Obama called the treatment of the Filipino veterans "an injustice".
A late compromise was in 2009. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which was signed into law by President Obama, created a stimulus package included a one-time payment of $15,000 to surviving Filipino veterans who were U.S. citizens and $9,000 to those who weren’t.
Filipinos can now receive a very minor compromise and minimal justice after so many years. Filipinos should have obtained what they deserved during WWII, which was the promise of veteran benefits and citizenship but instead this turned into a long conflict battle for a small financial compromise.
